Music Was IT is a finalist for the 2012 YALSA Award for Excellence in nonfiction.


On April 30, 2012, at IRA in Chicago, I'll participate in a panel on "Nonfiction Books Bring to Light Those History Makers Who Might Have Been Left in the Dark: In a Fun Way." The focus will be on "Jean Laffite: The Pirate Who Saved America," due out from Abrams in spring 2012. At the Holiday House booth I will also sign copies of "Irena Sendler and the Children of the Warsaw Ghetto."

On Saturday, June 23, at ALA in Anaheim, I will participate in the Nonfiction Book Blast panel hosted by Anastasia Suen.

My latest titles published in 2011 are "Music Was IT: Young Leonard Bernstein," "Wideness & Wonder: The Life and Art of Georgia O'Keeffe," and "Irena Sendler and the Children of the Warsaw Ghetto."

Due out in spring 2012 is "Jean Laffite: The Pirate Who Saved America," and in fall 2012, "Diego Rivera: The Life and Art of the Genial Cannibal," both from Abrams.
